Humility is one persons ability to see themselves less, and others more. In other words, our joy comes in serving others with a moral objective.
Philippians 2:3-4 says, “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.”
This doesn't mean that our own happiness is buried, nor does it mean we are floor mats to be walked over. Loving others does include an expectation to be loved. However, when we don't receive it, our response should not be a hateful one, but a hopeful one.
Humility encourages a teachable, changing, listening, forgiving, and patient heart. We won't have a deep relationship with Christ or others if we lack humility.
