Jesus encounters a woman accused of adultery (Jn. 8:1-11), surrounded by people ready to condemn her. Does Jesus encourage the condemnation?
No, he does not, instead, Jesus responds with profound compassion, challenging anyone without sin to cast the first stone. One by one, her accusers leave. These accusers were not after righteous judgment or seeking the betterment of the woman. These Pharisees were after unrighteous condemnation through selfish pride.
This story reminds us to respond to others with love and grace rather than judgment through hate or prideful motivations. We must recognize that Jesus has the ultimate judgment. Then, we can all strive to live a holy life with His guidance and instruction.
Just as He showed mercy to the woman, we, too, are called to extend compassion, leaving judgment to the One who knows each heart fully.
